Anyone running a 30-06 throated for 230grs Bergers for 1000yds F-Class

Thinking about getting an additional barrel for my Axis. Wondering if anyone has tried this set up?

Notes: 300WM won't work on an Axis. Everyone uses a 6.5 set up. I was thinking of going a different route for a bullet with even better BC's then the 6.5's.

I need to get out more, I just can't fathom 24' of drop.

These ballistics are very close to that of the 6.5x47 if you compare them. Accept the 230gr pill would be able to drop game much easier if I decided to take it to the field.

You might be able to get bullets with a higher BC but that doesn't necessarily mean a lower lag time which is what dictates wind deflection...I think the 6.5s are going to have you beat on .30 cal with wind deflection unless you go to the big big boomers...

Ya I actually settled on doing a 6.5-06. I really just wanted to build something using the 30-06 cartridge. I've order all parts for my new build, but haven't pulled the trigger on the glass yet.

Parts follows:

Savage 110 LA
McGowen 26" Varmint Contour 8 twist
SSS Comp Trigger
Choate Tactical Stock
and planning to pick up a Vortex 6-24x50 with EBR-2C

Should come together nicely once I get a load built up for it.
