Breaking in my new 12 LRP .260

So far, I'm in love with this thing. I'm still working up loads for it, but so far it has been unbelievable for a stock factory rifle. The trigger breaks cleanly at 14 oz! I'm impressed.

Now I just need to skip the caffeine before going to the range. :(

I have a 260 LRP on the way. I am really looking forward to seeing what it's got.

I got a 6.5CM LRP just before Christmas last year. I have "broken it in" since then! I have shot many sub MOA groups with it. It is a fantastic rifle.
This is a target from a few weeks back. I went yesterday and tried my luck at 700 yards in a good breeze and found out that wind is everything! Its not as ugly as it looks. The first shot was the one on the left edge. The next three are the group in the middle which measures 0.41 MOA at 540 yards. The top one is my cocky attempt at a head shot.

I think you will find the rifle is more than capable! I have enjoyed mine as you can see. I found out my old rifle was holding me back a certain amount.

I just got mod 12 LRP in a 260 rem. and just started load development for it. So far my best groups have been with 140 gr berger vld. Using 41.5 gn of H4350. at .003 off the lands. The group was .23" with a 5 shot group. The paper tore on the second shot and I thought 3 of my rounds missed the paper until I looked at the plywood my target was stapled to. I found the other holes in the first shot. My flyer was only 1/2 inch away from the other 4 shots. One thing I noticed is it does not like a clean barrel. Shots open up to 1.5 to 2 inches. But after a couple of fouling shots it goes sub MOA. Did you find this with your rifle? I still have to croni this load. Not sure how far I can go with my load of H4350. From what I have read I might be able to go up to 45 grains but I did not go past 42. No pressure signs at 42 but group opened up to about .75". My next batch of ammo I moved bullet to touch the lands. Not sue I want to jam bullets. What powder and bullets did you try? I also have some 140 hybrids and 130 VLDs . Haven't tried the 130s yet. As I only have a pound of H4350. I do have a couple of pounds of IMR4350. Not sure what powder to use with the 130s. I do have other powders I can also try, like Imr7828, varget, hybrid 100v . What loads have you tried?

I hope you weren't shooting at this target with all the houses in the background! Good shooting though! I'm thinking of build a 6.5-06 next. Would like to have a few extra grains of powder to play with over the 260.

That's some good long range shooting. The more practice you get at long range the better you'll be at reading the wind.

Lone wolf, thats the target after getting home! The hay field we shoot in is 1/2 from any residence. I have had a couple of people ask me about that though!

Every rifle I have owned prefers a fouled barrel...accuracy goes up exponentially with a fouled barrel for me. I shoot a rifle till accuracy start to fall off (typically about every 200 rounds in most of my rifles) and then clean it good. For my hunting rifles that only see seasonal use, I head to the range pre-season to foul the barrel and then don't touch it (clean it) all season...at the end of the season it gets a good cleaning followed by a lightly oiled patch and put away in the safe.

People often do more damage to their rifles over cleaning them or using the wrong tools/products than they ever do shooting them.

For rifles you may not shoot regularly, just push a lightly oiled patch through them before storage and skip the rigorous cleaning. Every rifle is different...most of mine get about 200 rounds out before their accuracy starts to open up....but I have a 25WSSM (it's a Browning A-Bolt) that wants to be cleaned a little more often, but not every 50 rounds. Bedding may hlp general accuracy....but doubt it will help much with extending the life of the fouled barrel...but who knows!

The part about bedding was in reference to accuracy. I don't really clean that aggressive anyhow I just use wipeout over night, run a patch and than run a oiled patch. I Don't use brushes.

I love my .260 LRP as well. I've had her out to 1260yds and she performs! I load 43.5gr H4350 underneath a 130gr Norma Golden Target. Seems to be a good combination.
