I currently own a Weatherby Mark V in .300 Weatherby. It's a great rifle but its a contour 1 barrel and heats up too quickly and affects accuracy quickly. I am thinking of selling this rifle... Keeping my Scope, rings and base.

With trading/selling it to Cabelas they are willing to give me $700 for the rifle alone.

Will this much cash allow me to get into a savage .338 setup with bull barrel? I know I am taking a big hit, but Weatherby Market just isn't hot.

I have a 110 savage in 30-06 but I really don't want to do a barrel swap as it is a VERY accurate rifle. I did get a new trigger for the old/non standard accutrigger model (its currently in my 30-06) I would be willing to put that in the new setup.

Looking to use this new rifle as my Brown bear rifle.

Basically looking to swap one setup for another. I am willing to build it from a stevens if needed to save cost. Really just looking for something new.

Wanting a bull barrel as this will be my range gun.

The 110fcp 338 papua would fit your needs. if you look around you can find them around 1225 to 1300 new.

Snatch up all the Stevens 200 actions you can find since they don't make em any more......

-$100 for steevens action......add the $100 back on if upgraded to after market trigger.
Performance edge going to the edge with the longer barrel.
Ammo cost advantage going to the edge assuming your handloading both cartridges.

Mmmm... So edge would only be a single shot?

No, it could be a repeater. From the sounds of things your least expensive option is to have a new barrel put on the Weatherby. You're most likely taking a loss selling the rifle, especially to Cabelas. When you figure that loss against the cost of a new barrel and fitting I think you'll come out ahead. The Weatherby has a longer mag box already also, although still not long enough for 338/300RUM and heavy bullets.

You can do the edge as a repeater in a savage but it requires modifying the receiver and in my opinion it is not worth it.
If you like the weatherby KRP's idea certainly makes sense.
