Well i have decided that I am going to have my 300 wm turned, into a 6.5 300wm. I don't know what all is needed besides a barrel blank obviously. What tools will I need to find for the gunsmith. He has never made one, or does someone know ho makes a prefit barrel in this caliber

One more question what does every one think for twist for 130 and 140 gr pills. It looks like the round can throw a 140 vld 3300+. I appreciate everyones input

Shilen can provide a prefit in that caliber but if you do end up having a smith build it you will need a reamer and go no go gauges. 270wsm gauges should work. You can get away with a 9 twist and a 140 bullet depending on your elevation and velocity but 8 twist is the more commonly used twist for the 6.5s.

I was only able to top out at 3200 in my 26" barrel and ended up having to back that off to around 3100 to get the accuracy I was looking for. I have since moved away from the wsm and built a 6.5-06 Ackley improved that achieves the same 3100+ much more efficiently. 59 grains of powder vs 67 in the wsm. Your results may vary good luck with your build.

he's not talkin' Short Mag, just Win Mag, the long one.

I have a friend hunting in a camp near ours who has a 6.5 on the win mag case. Im sure he used an 8 twist.
For several years i had a 6.5 on the 270 wsm case in which i used 140 bergers with 63 gr h1000.
Velocities in both guns were pretty much equal as i recall. He went to lighter bullets for more velocity last time
i met up with him. Not a good choice for a gun that might see use past 1000 yds.

Yes it would be a .264 bullet in a necked down 300wm case. It would be purely a hunting rifle. I have both the 300 win mag and the 264 win mag and I like them both, I just figured it would be a super combination.

My bad for some reason I read 6.5wsm.
