I'm looking at the Model 114 Classic in 270 Winchester and have read numerous places about how difficult it is to match scopes/bases with the long Savage action. I have a Leupold VX-2 3.5-10 I'd like to mount on it but not sure as the proper bases that would work. I don't like rails or bases that hang over half an inch or more over the action.

Any recommendations that would work with this scope would be most welcomed.

if you know the length of the tube area I can compare it to my Nikon, I have mocked up Talley lightwiegth's with the extended front on my 116, it does not hang out over the action opening. ring and base all in one.

Tube length is right at 5 3/4".

A standard leupold 1 pc base should work fine. It would require leupold rings also.
You could also use their 2 pc base set. Both might require an offset front ring due to scope legnth.
I have a 2 pc base setup on a savage long action with a vx2 3x9 scope "older model" and i needed the offset front ring.
When i bought the gun it had an old redfield scope with a standard front ring.
The advantage of picitinny type mounts is they allow more flexibility with shorter scopes.
Life might be easier to just buy an egw base and appropriate type rings.

the tube of my Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 measures 5 7/8" so it's close to same as yours. you should be able to get proper eye relief with the extended front Talleys. the back of the front ring comes just up to the front of the action opening.
