In my search for a M40A1'ish style stock with a Monte Carlo Cheek piece I have come across Stockades Mule Deer stock...I think it would be an excellent base stock to modify...basically adding some material to the front end to make a wider beavertail forend and a few subtle changes to the stock with filler...and add a CDI DBM, long action with a 16-18" 308 barrel

Anyone have one? Happy with it

I like the way you think! I've always had a thing for M40A1s and their 'function over fashion' look. I always thought the McMillan was the issued stock for the M40:

If anything, I'd think you'd remove material from the forearm rather than add any if your were going for the 'issued' look. Isn't a wide beavertail stock for shooting off bags which a sniper would not have the luxury of using?

Keep us posted! That would be sweet if you went for a Savage M40A1 build. I have a 24" 308 still with the factory plastic on it so now you've got me thinking :)
