I am pretty new to the long range thing and today I set out to shoot past 1000 yards. The farthest I had gone was 776 yards and was hard pressed to find a safe place to push 1000. I decided to load some rounds and go scout some places after I dropped the kids of at school. I finally found an area and the target ended up being 1070 yards on the nose.

The wind was tricky and this group was definitely more luck than skill. I am still wondering how I pulled it off. Luck or not, I had a goal to hit 1000 before it got blistering hot here in AZ and now im happy.

Hey! luck trumps skill every time.

Just am not believing all three Amax bullets missed that tape measure. How lucky is that?
Seriously good shooting....really like how there is almost no vertical spread. Bet your extreme spread on that load is 10fps or less.

Whether it was luck, skill or a combination of both, that's still some good shooting there.

Nice looking rig, too.
Good luck with it.

Awesome shooting, makes you feel warm and fuzzy when you can put a string together like that, good job!

My wife and I compete at a 1000 yard match and as a father of four I can fully appreciate your accomplishment. I was amazed at getting to go shooting after dropping the kids off at school! Then to shoot a group like that at that distance! Great job!

Thanks for all the compliments. I still think it was all luck but look forward to more practice and getting better. I love shooting at distance, and putting this Savage together in my garage makes it all the more rewarding.

Congrats King zero, What a great post to read. Regarding luck! the wind Gods might have been smiling down on you but it still takes a seasoned shooter to get a trigger press like that. Well done man......b.t.w. what a nice looking rig

great shooting!
I was looking at 6.5x284 for the longest time but after I did the math on tooling and components, I decided 260 as well. cheaper to load for and accuracy is defently there.
what barrel are you using?

LOL, I just got a 6.5/284 and love it but now I also want a 260 Rem or 260 AI so I won't have to replace barrels as often!
