I am in the process of headspacing my barrel and was wondering what the is the thickest recoil lug available? I am using a dual port action and an edge barrel I just got from from Mcgowan. There is about 1/8" of threads showing on the barrel after headspacing. I used the go gauge and an empty case so the headspace looks good. I am using the recoil lug that came with the action so it looks like I would need one that is 3/8".

You can buy Remington 700 lugs in different thicknesses and it will work, the problem is there is no notch or bump to index them like a Savage lug. SSS and Northlander sell thicker lugs, right off the top of my head I don't remember what they measure. (About .10 thicker than stock) From what I have read this is a common problem with McGowan barrels, they are just threaded too long. Personally I would call them and explain the problem, and they should fix it.

It is not a big deal to me. I just figured if there was a thicker one available I would throw it in while I am building it.

I think Pahog had a thick Callahan lug on his 6br(with no nut). Like Pat mentioned though I dont believe they have the stud to line it up in the action, but the ones in the Midway link look like they are threaded there so you can install one, maybe.

Yeah, some aftermarket lugs only have a pilot hole or nothing, a stud needs to be added and fitted to the slot in the action, kind of like this one.
