Here is an update on my 6x45 Savage build for those looking to build a Bolt or AR15 in this caliber and wonder about barrel life.
As of today I have 3020 rounds fired through my 24" SS, varmint weight McGowen barrel that I got from Jim @ NSS & I built in 2011.
Seems to be shooting ok after 400+ coyote, 7 antelope, 100s of paper targets and couple thousand+ p-dogs.
All are 5 shots over my chrony today and mixed brass consisting of LC/R-P/IMG/PPU/PMC/MAL in each group. It doesn't have a need to have every round the same brass mfg...shoots em good anyway.
My 80g tsx barnes load shoots .630", 85g SGKHP goes .550"/95g nosler HBT goes .750"
My glass is a 35 yr. old BSA 6-24x44 platnum target scope, 1/8" dot. Japanese made!

My 6x45 Savage with a McGowan barrel shoots about the same with benchmark and about any good bullet, but the best with 70 grain hp.Works great on prairie dogs to 600 yards.Brass is plentiful, easy on powder and the shoulder, good choice for anybody.

I have been toying with the thought of doing one in 6x45-AI but haven't even got done fiddling with a couple newer barrels I have. Still got a long way to go on the 6-06 and just starting to narrow down the 6-WSM. 6x45 or 6x45-AI is on my list so I can have a use for all this range pickup 223 brass I keep finding.

Glad its working well for you.

I'm still wanting a 6x47 (6x222 Rem mag) for a walk around varminter, with a heavy sporter barrel for coyotes. Need to find a Stevens 200 in 223 for a donor rifle. I already have one in .223, but it shoots so good I don't want to pull it apart.

I have a Contender carbine in 6 TCU, which is very close to a 6x45 AI. That thing is a tack driver with Hornady 80 gr SSP's. Sadly those are no longer made. Now I want a bolt gun repeater for calling 'yotes.
