I see a bunch of people are fascinated by the 338 EDGE. Yet, hardly ever is the 338-375 Campfire (Rick Bin, Ruger, etc.) mentioned. It matches the 340 Weatherby, and does it with a standard long action. Take a 300 Win Mag, 7mm Mag, 338 Win Mag, and re-barrel it to 338-375. That is about it. PTG and others have the reamer available for rent. It pushes a 250 gr bullet to 2800 fps comfortably or a 200 gr pill to 3200. And this is with a 22"-24" barrel. Although the parent cartridge is designed for shorter barrels, and longer barrel would give you more velocity. I see a bunch of 28"-30" inch tubes with the EDGE.

I don't understand the fascination with the Edge. I went with the 338 RUM, no messing around with forming brass and pretty much the same ballistics.

Actually there isn't any die forming for the 338 Edge. I just run the 300 Rum Brass into a 338 Rum die and presto, ready to reload. Oh, don't forget to back the sizing die out about .090 before sizing.

For me, I could not get enough velocity from my short barreled guns to appreciate the 338 X 378 Weatherby. SO I took a step back in capacity, used a faster powder and shazam. I am currently beating my 338 X 378!

Typically speaking the Edge beats the 338 Rum and the 338 Lapua in velocity at all bullet weights. Not much but it is faster! The 338 X 375 Ruger would be an awesome choice. I have so many different 338's there just isn't any desire to step backwards to the 338 X 375.

Facination No- application in big bear country,"oh Yea".

I get enjoyment out of forming brass and reloading. I have always wanted a 338 since i was a kid. At first I wanted the 338 win mag till I found the 338 rum and now i am building an edge.

my pieces are startin to dribble in for my 338 rum...never gave the campfire serious thought, i dunno, the rum is an easy switch, and i will be able to have a repeater, use a unmodified bolt head/action. the magbox is the limiting factor, but it looks like ill be fine w a length just over 3.625. funny imho, no one talks about the lapua 338 bullets - for the weight far superior to sierras offerings, and they can be had cheaper. hopefully ill get her put together in a week or so...still waitin on my stock, but ive got a beater wood stock to function check her and start load development and chrony testing. ill be postin the results soon(i hope)

I'm in the process of building a 338/375 Ruger on a Striker. I ordered the reamer and headspace gage from PTG yesterday. They should be here in a few weeks. I think that this caliber just doesn't have as much to offer as larger cases like the Edge, RUM, or Lapua if you're using a magnum length action. If you want to use a standard length action though, the Ruger case has a lot going for it.

Right now, I'm going to have an 18" barrel made for the Striker. Once that's done I'll have a rifle barrel made up. It won't do anything that a 330 Dakota wouldn't do just as well, but at least it will be different. Plus it will give me something to do with some of my 375 Ruger brass. I have 200 twice fired cases and another 50 virgin cases.

So this round would need a magnum bolt head right? I wonder if I could get my 338-06 reamed out and just swap the bolt head. Wonder if Sinman has a reamer yet.
