There were a bunch of variations of the Savage NRA's.

Does yours have a full length stock? Does it have a peep sight on it? Pics would help.

The markings in the barrel are as follows: Savage NRA Match Rifle patent dates: Nov.28,1905,Sept.7,1915, Sept 4 1917, and Nov 20 1917.
Serial # 28987 .22 Long Rifle Hope this helps.
I would love to be able to restore this gun so I can give it to my grandson.

From what I can see right now, someone has shortened the stock on it at the end of the forearm.

The Savage 1919 used to have a full length stock with a barrel band, it looks like yours has been shortened right where the barrel band would have been.

Also, the rear sight has been swapped with a Marbles, they pretty much just ground the front of the dovetail off and drilled a hole into the sight so the screw could go it.

I'm not 100% sure on the date but if sav22 checks in he'll narrow it down for you.

Someone is parting out an original 1919 on Ebay right now but the prices are getting up there.

Thank You for the response. I knew it was old and some parts had been changed.

But, I did not know about the stock being shortened from full length.

I think I am going to try and located an original peep sight for it and maybe replace the stock, but not sure yet.

Again, Thank You for the response.

This is what it would have looked like less the peep sight.

shu9265, Your gun is the version brought out about 1923 - same action as the Model 23-A. They were made until 1933 and the serial numbers fall between 25,000 and 45,000 - the serial numbers were re-started at 25,000 and again at 45,000 for the Model 19-33. For the year of yours, it's just a guess based on the total number and where yours falls - but you have to consider the last 2 years of production would have fallen in the depression years and it is not know how close they came to the 45,000 when they started the numbers over - it looks to me they just picked nice round numbers and actual production numbers could be a lot less.
