For a moment I thought this was about Johnny B. Goode's 'ol lady.
Interesting stuff. Probably the ONLY thing I miss about my former position with my old company was having the opportunity to talk with many old timers that served in WWII. Brave men with great stories.

The copilot Robert F Toner is from the town where I live, there is a nice well kept memorial tribute to him, and a main road named after him.
He is also the one that kept a diary compiling there ultimate demise.
