For a change I remembered to take a pic of the original project rifle before tearing it apart.

I'm always in such a rush to tear them apart I forget to take those! And you know they're never "done". Nice end result, what barrel?

It's a 26" ER Shaw. I really wanted that darned helical fluting.!! Turned out to be a pretty good shooter.

That's sweet.....what stock/color scheme is that? Looks to be a Varmint contour barrel, fits good?

Thanks, it's a Boyd's Prairie Hunter in Pepper Laminate.
The barrel is Magnum contour, I think the pic angle makes it look a bit heftier than it is, haha I won't go there!!!

How long was the wait for the barrel? Last Shaw I bought took over a year.

If I remember correctly it was about 8 months turnaround on it.
I ordered another one this past November and they estimated about a 6 month or so wait. Hopefully they're in the ballpark.

Good looking gun. I like the barrel twist too.

Thanks Snowgetter. I've had a lotta pea shooters come and go over the years but I'm pretty attached to this one, think I might hang on to her.

Nice Job Barrel Burner! That is a excellent example of taking a perfectly fine savage hunting rifle and creating precision tack driver. I bet she's a shooter!

Thanks guys.
You know 223, I should probably be ashamed of myself for this, but I stopped load development on this one once I hit 1/2 moa. Only burned one powder and no seating depth tinkering so far. I loaded up 4 batches of 5rnds and have been using that last combination ever since. She holds 1/2 moa real consistent unless I get impatient and get her too warm.

Oh how I wish they all tuned up like that!

It would get boring if we didn't have one every now and again that gets our blood pressure up!!!
I'm working with one of those right now :noidea:.

That looks good. What bolt handle is that and what caliber (if I missed it)? If you don't mind, what does the barrel measure at about the 20" and 18" mark? I've looked at that contour but I don't plan on leaving it the full 26" in length.

Thanks Twostepct.

Bolt Handle is an oversize Savage stainless that's been dressed up a little.
It's chambered in .280 ack imp.
The helical fluting makes it a little tough to measure the diameter exactly, but its about .740" at 20 inches and .755" at 18 inches.

Hey thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it.
