First, I just picked up a decent 99F in 308, which I have wanted for a while.

Second, while taking the buttstock off for cleaning, I noticed this rifle has an aluminum stock bolt and washer.
I assumed some idiot put it in there, but Numeric has a pick of the bolt and it looks the same.
Is my bolt an original, or is it some sort of replacement?

Third, any other knowledge I need to know about these guns?

Oh, can these be safely dry fired, or is it OK to put them up cocked?
I like to store my guns uncocked, but if it hurts to dry fire, then I'll leave it be.

Is your gun above or below the 1,000,000 serial number range?

It is above. I think it is a 1961 model.

Then you'll have to buy some snap caps to let the firing pin off.

If it had been below 1,000,000 you would have been able to slip close the lever, which only means that you could hold the trigger in fire position and close the lever and it wouldn't engage the firing pin.

Know anything about the originality of the aluminum stock bolt?

If it's a post mil rifle then I'd hazard a guess that it may be factory, they started using a lot of aluminum after awhile.

Have a look at your rotor, it may be aluminum as well.
