Anyone use this and for what and how does it perform? I grabbed by a mistake and now I am stuck with it. Thanks for any info. Dan

I use IMR 4064 as my standard powder for 220 Swift, 22-250, and .308. Federal brass, CCI 250 primers, 168 SMKs, and 44.5gr of IMR 4064 is as close to FGMM as I have ever come both in velocity and accuracy.

30/06, 165gr Sierra SBT, 50.0 gr IMR-4064. Very accurate in 2 of the 3 30/06's we shoot, untried in the 3rd one.
Uncle Jack, you might want to retract your last post, see #6 here: http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?104-General-Forum-Rules-amp-Code-of-Conduct

I think the OP was referring to AA4064, not IMR4064. Accurate Arms also makes a 4064.

FWIW...AA4064 is #95 on the burn rate chart, IMR4064 is # 93. So they are VERY close and data would probably interchange.

And now for the cursory "start low and work up".

I have a pound of the XMR4064 and have used it with great results in the 22-250. I would say it performs as well as IMR4064 in accuracy, but don't know about velocities. I do not have a chronograph.

Here is Accurate Arms load data...

I use IMR4064 in several .30-06 with excellent results and have been using it in my 375 Ruger also. Its been my go-to powder for the .30-06 for 35 years.

Just opened a jar of Accurate 4064 and used it with my Savage 308 Carbine and 168gr Hornady A-Max. Used the same amount I always use with IMR 4064. Perhaps just a wee bit slower but nor worries at all about using it in place of the IMR.

is it any easier to meter than IMR version?

Regular 4064 is my top choice along with RL 15 for my 308 win loads.

http://www.accuratepowder.com/consumer-alert/recall-notice/Hopefully your accurate 4064 doesn't say 14202 production lot on the bottom--there's a safety recall on it I just noticed on their site.

Yeah +1 ? Trying to meter this stuff thru my Hornady powder dispenser is like "grinding coffee" making consistency very difficult.

I load 4064 in 165g .30-06, .243 80 and 100g, and even .223 62g hp's with consistent results. Understood about the powder thrower. It does grind up a few on the edge. :-).

I'm loading Accurate 4064 through my .308 currently. it does meter through my RCBS Uniflow measure pretty well. It seems to be really close to IMR4064 in my rifle. I show signs of excess pressure four grains below what Accurate's website show for a maximum load.

FOUR (4) grains or .4 below max......? The Hodgdon data for IMR 4064 shows only a 4.4 grain spread from starting load to MAX for a 168 gr BTHP. 41.5 to 45.9 (C)
Accurate data shows a 4.6 grain spread for the same bullet.......I'm new to reloading and I'd really like to know if this is correct or not.
Thanks,
Keith

Ive gone up as far as 45.0grs of IMR 4064 with a 175 SMK going 2865 thru a 24" 1-10 twist @ 3800ft elev. with no signs of o/press.
My tube like,d that load charge but Ive since found another node at 41.5 going 2700. getting .25-.50 patterns @ 100.Decided to go lighter to help the burn on the shoulder and the barrel.
Ive done "some" development with 168,s and have found the patterns getting closer @ 42.3gr but Ive sinse stopped my ladder testing due to me having too many dam rifles and not having enuff hours in the day to get things done.

I am NOT talking about IMR 4064 - I am talking about Accurate's 4064 - they are NOT the same powder... The original post asked about Accurate powder - not IMR.

Accurate's website shows a max load of 50.9 grains of Acurate 4064 under the 175 grain Sierra Matchking - at 46.5 grains I have flattened primers (Remington 7 1/2) with a raised ridge around the firing pin. With forty seven grains of powder under the same bullet, I get the above pressure signs with the added bonus of having to use a mallet to extract my fired brass.

http://www.accuratepowder.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/WP_LoadSpec_1-23-14.pdf

This is a **** good reason why reloaders are instructed to start low and work up. Maybe it's just my luck, but this is the second powder that has peaked early in my rifle.

*ACCURATE 4064* load testing: Savage Hog Hunter 20" barrel 1 in 10" twist, Sierra 175 grain Matchkings, *ACCURATE 4064* powder.

Range conditions - very windy sustained 15 - 20 winds with gusts measured at 33 mph, full value. Terrible - a guy couldn't even sit at the bench without watching yourself being blown about by the wind through the scope - I had to shoot prone.
I have loaded from 41.5 all the way up to 46 grains with no pressure signs, but beyond 46 grains, I see pressure signs, in my rifle. This morning I was able to shoot one inch groups or better with all loads from 42.0 to 45.0 grains. I can't say any load shot better that any other, but 43.5 grains came in at 2,500 fps from my twenty inch barrel. I will play with seating depth next weekend.
