Well, I finally got to shoot my first .308 reloads(ever) in my Savage 10TR. I was reloading once fired FED brass, neck sized in Lee Collet Dies. I only shot 100y. My normal urge to adjust the scope as I shot was set aside as I wanted to focus on my groups. The first group, at 42g, was a cold barrel.

I started from 42g IMR4064 (every load using 168g Hornady BTHP bullets and WLR Primers) and maxed out at 43.5g.

The Savage has a 4rd DBM, and since I wanted to shoot more than a 3rd group, because those that do face the wrath of many ... ;) I shot 5rd groups. I found that my adhustment to get that 5rd off messed with my setup on the rifle. I am not making excuses, just stating why the last round seemed to be a flyer each time.

Anyway. some pics. The odd round at 100y is the round not part of the magazine...at each load. At least I am consistent...

My best...the flyer being the extra shell I loaded singly. 42.5g of IMR-4064 looks good. I will test the same loads at 200y to be sure.

Ya, looks like it. While I have reloaded .45ACP, it doesn't compare to the satisfaction these .308 loads have given me. :D

Is the 42.5g a hot load for that rifle? I have about half a pound of the same powder I may needs to try in my 10fpsr. I also have the 168 hornady to load so this looks like nice setup to try at 100y. My goto load at longer range is the 175 smk w varget.

In my Lee manual, the MAX load is listed at 44.5g of 4064 for the 168g bullet, if memory serves. 42.5g was not hot...at least in my experience.
