Hey folks, how's it going? I started shooting 15-20 years ago, and the only gun I've owned thus far is a .303 model 99 Savage. Since we all know how difficult it is to find rounds for that caliber, I'm actually considering a .308 Savage Axis. I'm mainly a buck hunter, and for at least for me, there's nothing quite like the reliability of a Savage rifle.

Welcome! Depending on your needs, the Savage Hog Hunter is a better value in 308. If you require a detachable magazine or a lightweight, then it won't work, but if you're looking for a good platform for an accurate shooter, you can hardly go wrong with it.

Thanks guys, and Hotolds442, the biggest issue is I'm left handed and the Axis is one of the few rifles out there that come in a lefty form.

Welcome
As a fellow lefty here's my take on things
A lot of guys around here like their Axis's but I'm not one of em. I much prefer anything on the 10/110 action.
Night and day difference between the two and the Axis just took "economy offering" way too far in my opinion.
By the time you straighten out the stock and trigger issues on an Axis, you could have picked up a nice 10/110 and have a better stick built on a time proven design.
Savage used to offer all of the the 10/110 rifles in either right or left handed so there are are quite a few leftys out there if you look around.
Some of them may be older and may or may not not have all the bells and whistles but they are still great shooters and superior to the axis.
Of the 10/110 rifles the 116s are my favorites.
Good luck
