I just ordered a stainless steel barrel nut for my regular steel smooth nut rifle by mistake. Other than the contrasting colors, is there a down side to using this combination?

No downside. Just a fashion statement.

What's that? Something I could use to blacken SS trigger guards?

My 11/12 has a blue action, SS recoil lug, blue nut and a SS barrel, shoots just fine!, oh and it looks GOOD too!

My 10 is built the same way, a looker and a shooter!

Did anyone that mixed steel with stainless use anti-seize on the threads?

You can, but really no special need. I always put a lil' anti-seize or oil on the threads and you are good to go regardless of barrel or receiver material.

I would ALWAYS use anti-sieze with stainless steel.
