Hey guys been lurking for a while first post . I have been contemplating building a 243AI . I would like to have a detachable magazine .
I figure I will have to have a long action . Will the 243 AI feed reliably out of a mag. If any of you have a setup like this I would like to
here what you have . Thanks

I have a 243AI, It don't feed well at all thru the Staggered Feed Short Action, I have a Center Feed Short Action, I might give it a try in to see if it feeds. You really don't need a Long Action, But it may help with the 105-107gr's.

This is close to what you are asking. I shoot a 6mm AI built on a long action for the same reason, it was originally a 30-06 center feed and it would not feed at all. The problem was more due to the shorter case than the straighter wall, ended up putting a single shot adapter in the gun. I would definitely try a few dummy rounds in someone elses magazine before I built my own.

I think another part of the problem is the angle of the shoulder. Almost like running into a brick wall.

My 243AI feeds fine out of its staggered feed short action but I think I probably got lucky.

Yep, your lucky I'm 0-3 with different 243AI's trying it, even with tinkering with the feed lips.

Thanks for the info . I may go with a 243 win .

The 6CM will also feed without a problem.

I have a Stevens 200 s/a with single column mag and it feeds 6mm AI just fine with no alterations. Guess I got lucky also :)
