I want to order the laminated stock that came on the LEFT HAND Savage 12 Varmint Low Profile. It was set up with a blind magazine, and the 4.4" short action. I tried calling Savage, but didn't have any luck. The parts fellow I spoke to says he cannot find it in their old catalogs (it is discontinued) but if I had a serial number they could assist me.

Well, that would be great, but I don't own one, just want the stock! I neglected to ask, but might it be possible to find it with the item stock number Savage assigns to each of their rifles?

The stock is attractive for any number of reasons. It is laminated, has pillars, no cheekpiece, and most importantly, closely resembles the old Winchester 70 Marksman stock. It would make a great all-around rifle stock for varminting, bench work, even prone with some adjustments.

If anyone could provide a serial number of one of theirs, it would be tremendously useful. Using that, I could find the part number for that exact stock. In future, anyone wanting that stock would have the correct part number.

Anyone?

Search GunBroker and GunsAmerica for that model and see if you can find one with pictures of the serial number. That's probably the easiest way other than google images.

ETA: try G473369

Savage shows it out of stock.
Numrich has it though. https://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufacturers/SavageStevensSpringfieldFox-33479/Rifles-40502/12Series-39680/12VLP-33805.htm

That one is right-handed, however that is the stock I'm looking for....in left hand. Thank you!

Another alternative might be for the owner of one of these LEFT HAND rifles to call Savage, give the serial number, and ascertain the part number of the stock in question.

Worth a few beers and lunch if you are in Walla Walla!

I bought the right hand version from Numrich. Intend to plug the front screw hole and drill for the correct spacing. I will also block the mag well and fit a middle pillar, along with filling in the RH bolt notch and cutting a new LH notch.

HOWEVER!

Effie emailed me today, and it seems I might be able to get them to cut a LH VLP stock. It is a bit more money than buying the right-hander from Numrich (about another 100 bucks) but that still pales in comparison to picking up a Russo, McMillan, etc. so tomorrow I will order THAT as well. I may leave the RH stock alone to build "The Boy" a rifle, but one way or another there will be a lefty version here in short order!

Hotolds442, there are two breweries here in Walla Walla, both of which produce some excellent dark beers. One of them has a killer sandwich selection, and even though my cholesterol says no-no (according to my doc) I am IN next time you are in town. No cholesterol in beer, right? :p

In all the beer I have drank, I've never tasted cholesterol in any of it. Sounds like Effie is taking care of you, that's awesome!
I plan on heading that direction near the end of the month to do some coyote hunting, I may just have to take you up on the offer.
