I'm learning that first hand.

Some numbers from the Magnetospeed yesterday:

105gr Hornady HPBT, 49.7gr H4350, .040 Jump 3346fps
105gr Hornady HPBT, 39.5gr IMR4064 fireform loads 2930fps

I gained a lot of velocity going to .040 jump. At the lands velocity was only 3298 and went up about 15fps for each .010 increment.

I didn't get a chance to take this one out to long ranges, by the time we started shooting the gongs, all I had left was fireforming loads that I'm not sighted in for.

Sounds good...definitely better speeds than the last time out....you are getting to the realm you had originally figured you might be at so thats good.....were you trying for groups too or just velocities this time? Wasnt sure how/if the magnetospeed affected your POI.

I shot 5 or 6 groups with it, but I haven't recorded the results yet, the targets are still in the truck and I'm at work. The Magnetospeed didn't seem to affect POI as near as I could tell, I took it off when shooting groups. The impact was centered over the target spots where the rifle is currently sighted in whether the Magnetospeed was installed or not.

Results from the 95gr VLD and 49.7gr of H4350 - 3376fps with no signs of pressure, that's 200fps over the 6mm and H4350....... I'm reasonably sure I can get to 3400, maybe more. Groups were sub-MOA and better than what I've been seeing with the Hornady 105's

Thats moving outta there pretty quick. I had a hiccup with mine and Apache has it right now, hes opening the neck up some for me. I cant wait to shoot it. I have 10rds fireformed for it so far and 40 necked down and ready to go. I would think 3400 would come pretty easy. Thanks for the info Dan

Are your necks a little tight?

Yes sir, when I ordered it from Jim I ordered a no-turn neck. I set my headspace with the case he sent me. I couldnt get my brass to chamber, and smoked the neck of the case and it showed it hitting the neck.
I contacted Jim and he told me to send it back and he would take care of it. I borrowed a neck turner to turn 10pcs of brass just to make sure it would be ok. I sent it back, and his brass worked fine, and he asked me to send some of my brass, and it wouldnt work. Said Lapua must have run a batch of brass with thicker necks, so he ordered a larger reamer and it should be in this week. Hes been great to deal with.
Hopefully Ill be shooting it in the next couple weeks.

Ok...a little update. Seems as though Ive been messing with this project forever! After I got my new dies (thanks for the help guys), got the annealing down, and removed the bedding on the first couple inches of the barrel...things started looking better. I started more fireforming with 87gr vmax and IMR4064. My groups at 100 would hover in the neighborhood of .5-.75. Better than anything I was getting before. I started with some charges of IMR 4831 with the 87gr vmax and got some pretty decent groups as I stepped up the charges. I settled on 51.0gr of IMR4831. I know my speed isnt up to what this cartridge is capable of but Ill shoot it for now because I feel like Ive finally made it somewhere.
51.0gr IMR4831
CCI LR primer
87gr vmax
Avg velocity 3434
ES 35
SD 11
My last groups were in the .3s
I think I can get more speed with IMR 4350 and will try that eventually but at the moment Im very pleased with things....finally lol

wow this is an old thread. hotolds have you tried the 105gr nosler rdf? with it's smaller bearing surface it may help you get the speed up some. if your using this for yote's in my experience the rdf's are far more explosive than the hornady's. (bad for big game but should be welcome for vermin)

That's one cool cat! Are you still using 6br dies?

Hotolds,
I settled on a load a little while back. I know you're not a big fan of Reloader powders but I'm using Re17. My load is 47.0gr of Re17 with a 105gr Amax seated .010 off the lands @ 3259 It's not a screaming load but it's crazy accurate(for me anyway). The last 3 groups I shot avg in .3s. And my ES over 2 different days was 15, so I'm really pleased with it. I got up into mid 3300 but accuracy started to fall off.
Yes Ev, I'm using 6br dies. Using a redding bushing die.

I’ll be experimenting with some Alliant Reloader powders in my new Christensen Ridgeline in 300 WM. Well at least RL25, RL25, and possibly RL50.

I haven’t done anything with the big 6 for awhile, but I plan on squeezing some more out of it this spring. I’ve got a bunch of 90 VLD’s to play with, and I also want to see how fast I can push the 55gr Ballistic Tip. I’m already getting over 4000 with the 243 AI, so I’m hoping to add 100 or so.....
