Is it possible to use a Long Action magnum bolt head in a short action? I know the bolt head will fit, but will it work ad does it require a different firing pin and spring? I also know that the change will affect headspace.

Can somebody tell me why it is so difficult to get Short Action bolt heads?

The stem on the LA bolt head (LA-BH) is longer than the ones on the SA-BH and so the firing pin will stop short. You can take a LA-BH and have it shortened to the same length stem as a SA-BH. Any local machine shop should be able to easily handle this. Remember to have them put the countersink in the back of the stem as it will be removed when the LA-BH is shortened to the SA-BH stem length. You will have to readjust your firing pin protrusion to this bolt head but it will work just fine. I am running on one I modified right now with my 6WSM.

Thank you, I will give it a try. I am trying to replace a controlled feed head with a push feed on my 25WSM. The controlled feed does not feed well or extract with AI mags in CDI bottom metal.
