I have inherited a 1911 vintage model 99 chambered in 30-30.

I would say it is in fair condition. I am not planning on selling it, I am planning to take it out and shoot some hogs with it. Just want to make sure it is not some super rare version before I do that.

I don't know how rare it is,but I don't see any harm in using it either way..Just make sure the barrels clear, and the action locks tite....Enjoy it that's what it's for.

After some research I think this is an 1899H. The take down version. Anyone?

If it has a button on the forend it is indeed a take down and there is a slot to grab the barrel and turn it a quarter turn and it should come right off. If the threads are sloppy it is in bad shape ,if it locks back in tight you are good to go.

Barrels to long for an H, I think you've got an 1899A T/D.

Pics are really dark but that's what I can make out.

Looks like it's still in good huntable condition, should put down a hog with ease.

Don't have to look for the release button, if you look at the front of the receiver there's a steel block between the receiver and forearm, that's part of the take down forearm.

Yes, it does have a mechanism on the bottom of the forend. I have not tried to take it down yet.

It does not have the tang peep sight. I see them new for $125. Is that the going rate? Seems kinda expensive.

Does anyone make a short mount that screws into those holes? Something that I could attach a red dot to?

Them open sights thats already on your rifle are just fine for a 30-30...If you have your mind set on a scoped 30-30 I would just buy an old beat up 336 ..If you did attach a mount for a red dot scope to the tang you would have to shim it because the tang is kinda curved, and if your bolts are too short youll pull the threads out, beside it would be a shame to "Jimmy rig "an old classic...I hope I didn';t offend any Jimmys..LOL

Yep, that's the going rate for the new Marbles tang sights, the vintage ones go for around the same price or more.

The nice thing about Marbles new tang sights for the 1899's is that they're windage adjustable unlike the vintage ones.

My eyesight is not great. I have a hard time picking up the front sight. A red dot or scope is best for me. I hate to drill and tap it but the value for me is using the gun. I am not gonna sell it and I will use it a lot with a scope on it.

Do what makes you happy, 1899's are probably drilled and tapped everyday.

Plus it makes the guns in my safes worth more money, hahahaha.
