Budget Rangefinder?

Starting to look for a newer range finder. What are you using and are you happy? Mine would probably only get used on deer out to 400 or 500 yards max.

Right now, I'm looking at the Vortex Ranger. But may try to find a used, discontinued one like the Bushnell Elite 1500 or Leica LRF. Any thoughts on those?

Can't comment on the vortex but I have used few of the leupolds some time back... My experience has been that I always wished I had gotten something better for the money spent.... I use the Leica 1600B and it is a fantastic piece for the money , typically I don't need to range past 1200 yds but what some people forget is that when a manufacturer advertises what their range finders will range too , that is if the conditions and the subject are perfect.

If you are looking to range out to 400-500 you'd be best served to get one rated to 800 yards or better in my opinion.

If you look, sometimes you can find a used 1600b for 650 or less. The older craft might be good as well. Like patch said, figure what distance you want to range, then buy a model rated for at least twice that far.

+1 what patch said. I have a leupold RX-II and has served me well out to 7-800yds though.

Got an Elite 1500. Already ranged the Brake Check across the freeway - 803 yards.
