Hi all,
I have a Savage 10 FP in .308 (accutrigger model) and just picked up a model 110 FP in .223 (non-accutrigger) 20" heavy barrel.
I would like to get both of these threaded 1/2x28 TPI to use with my .308 and .223 suppressors. Found an outfit that will do just that, but they want just the barrels sent to them. What is needed in order to de-barrel the action? Both are heavy barrels.
Thanks in advance for all replies,
Pete

get an action wrench and barrel nut wrench and a 308 and 223 go gauge. you will be all set.

DO NOT send your barrels to a machinist, send them to a gunsmith. Machinists never fail to do things their way and they do not understand what is important on a rifle barrel.

I used Adcofirearms.com to thread two of my heavies recently. They did a 6.5 CM and a '06, they did an awesome job, price was right $65 a piece and turnaround was 7 days door to door including shipping. Can't beat em and they sure as shit know what they are doing.

Tornado Technologies. Sent the whole rifle. You might look into them before making any final decisions.

Are you sure your 308 suppressor is threaded 1/2"x28 tpi? That sounds kind of light (although not unheard of).

Normally, 1/2"x28 tpi is for 223/5.56 and similar cans. This is the thread for AR-15s.

5/8"x24 tpi is normally used for 308/7.62 cans. As well, this is usually the thread for AR-10s.

I hear that ADCO will do a fine job as mentioned earlier.

Plus 1 on Mike at Tornado Tech. The .308 barrel should be threaded 5/8 X 24. The .223 barrel can be threaded threaded 1/2 X 28 or 5/8 X 24. You can use the .308 suppressor on the .223. Check Silencer Research for suppressor info. I remove Savage barrels for threading. For Remington's, I leave the barrel on the action and remove the trigger and scope mounts.

Mike @ Tornado Technologies did my Beretta 92 barrel and extended it for my Coastal 9mm suppressor. I should have thought of him about doing the rifles.
The 1/2x28 .223 suppressor is a Triple X made by Mike Klos, it is oversized and I have shot 7.62x39mm in full auto thru it with no issues. I was planning to use it both on the 110FP .223 and the 10FP in .308 with subsonic ammo.
After reading all the replies, I will go with 5/8x24 TPI on the .308 (I'll have to get an adapter from TROS) and 1/2x28 TPI on the .223.
