So I bought the 12 LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor and I am very pleased with it other than I have an old Leupold 3-9x40 on it and it deserves more.
I just acquired the money to purchase a scope and decided on the Vortex PST 6-24x50. I hope it is a good one for long range hunting and target shooting.
My question is about the base and rings. What do you guys recommend that will work best. I have a DNZ one piece on it now but its 1". It works good but i want SOLID.
One piece base and rings is what i am looking for and i would love to know if i have to have high rings with a base like that or just medium. Thanks for all recommendations guys. Model #'s and prices would be great. 20 moa also.

I just ordered a 12 LRP in 260 rem so after I pick it up will be doing measurements for same thing. However I have a model 10 BA in 308win that I am running the exact scope you a getting on right now. I shoot long range competition and hunt with it. The scope performed awesome. As for the base and rings, I run a 20MOA PGW gaze and vortex medium precision rings. The barrel to bell gap is what I would call perfect. I hope it helps.

Thanks steepdiver. Would the base on that 10 BA be the same as a LRP? I want it as low as i can mount it and put BC caps on it.
By the way, you will love the LRP. Its quite a rifle.

The LRP barrel is the same size as the receiver so I guess I should get high rings to be sure they will work.

I'm running the Warne tactical 1 pc 20 moa base and Warne tactical 30 mm rings on my 12-F. I'm running the Ex-high rings, but I'm running a 56mm Nightforce BR which has the AO on the objective.

This is the scope clearance on the 12-F with Ex-High rings and very little barrel taper:

I'm running the same Warne gear in 0 moa and high rings on my 243 BVSS with a standard Viper 6-20x50 scope. My barrel has some taper to it and I could get by with a med ring fine, but prefer the higher setup.

This should give you a good perspective on the scope height on the 243:

I have some 26mm high rings and i ordered the EGW 20 MOA base. I hope they will work with room for the caps. I may have to order some high ones.

I don't think the barrel and receiver are the same size. Receiver is 1.35" and the barrel is 1.12" tapered to 1" at the muzzle.

That's about 5mm fuzzynuts. I know its not the exact same size, but you arent gaining much scope room!http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/bflee1/3DA06D47-F203-4431-A18A-449D7FE2D265_zpsfpso7vhu.jpg

I see what you're saying. It only gives you about an 1/8" extra clearance.

I'm planning on using a Murphy Precision base that is .410" high along with 1" rings to mount a 56mm obj Steiner. Should end up with about .200" above the barrel.

OK Bflee. I just got mine in and started the measurement process. The measurement on mine from top of barrel to top of recover is 1/8". I have a link here that might help you out. Hope it helps you figure it all out, remember the outside of the front bell is usually not the dimensions provided by manufacturer fit front objective. That is usually just the glass size. So if you need me t measure mine I will be happy to do that, as I have the glass you say you want.

Steepdiver, what rings and base are you gonna use? I want enough clearance for some butler creek covers and a little wiggle room.
Have you tried the rifle yet? I have killed 4 dogs with mine with the little leupold 3-9x40 I have on it now since Christmas. I love it. 2 were at the same time at a little over a 100 yards. I look forward to catching a few more with the magnification of the Vortex. It shipped out friday so it should be here next week. I still have to find something to mount it base wise.

On the LRP I plan to run a Vortex HDII in vortex precision rings. As for a base it will either be a pt&g, EGW, or Warne (steel). The link I posted above will help you figure out clearance. The butler creek caps for the PST are 2mm thick, like I said before it's the scope I run on my savage 10ba. I use it for long range practical tactical competition. We shoot 100 to 900 yards pretty regularly. That scope sits in vortex medium precision rings on an EGW base.

I am glad you are having such success with your LRP I hope mine performed as well.
