The helo's I've got have metal frames, about 6" rotor span, a tail rotor for forward and backward. Basic models since there is no strafe.

It was quieter to play with helicopter than a guitar in hotel rooms, even if it did occasionally run into the ceiling/windows, or myself and that crap HURTS!

:focus:

When I get my Return in, I'm planning on buying a 1,000' spool and making a 75-100' rope out of 3 strands? for my BOB, just a simple braid. Or is there something else that's easy yet stronger? Then, the rest will wrapped around the pack's frame, knife sheaths, buttstock of my shotty, knife handles, anything and everything basically. I'll probably keep a 100' in my hunting poke too for on the fly blind building.

Using an avg. sling length, how many slings can be made from 1000' spool? Just avg length and say 1.5" wide.?

I think he said he uses 35' for a sling. Provided you get an actual 1,000' spool, you can get 28.5 slings, I think...

Thanks Mazda! Don't think I need 35 slings

Paraplanet had 1000 foot spools on sale $44 Yes you can make rope. There is a device with 3 nails in a drill to twist or do it by hand. Para is 500# breaking strength but don't expect 550# per cord, think the number is 20% rated strength on any cord. There is nylon and poly para. I don't think there is stronger cord for it's size.

It actually takes 3 separate 35 foot cords for a sling like the vid. That's a 43-45" sling. Not all need that big like my semi shotgun but the mossberg persuaded needed it cause tube is full length. I'm making a 36" now, about 30 foot x 3 but some left over. I'd say 10 min per 1000 spool. Takes about 3 hrs relaxed knotting. I think a swivel on the wall and work vertical would speed it up. Seems a tangle mess at first but once set the individual cords lay in piles as you work, not bad once you get going.

I'm actually thinking of getting Mil-C-5040-H TypeIV Paracord. It's $120 per 1000' on Amazon, but rated to 750# and has 11 strands. Decisions...

If you need the strength it's good. I find with the 550 the "mil spec" cord is just 30% higher than reg 550 cord, same specs. Forget where I saw the rope making. Think on yuku forums, paleo planet. They use fiber but same principle

I just plan on buying a case of beer and recruiting a couple friends to help with the rope making. Keeping a tight braid at 100' could play out to be difficult.

I figure, if I tie all 3 strands together on, say a fence post, then stretch em out in the back yard, one end in each person's hand and start the braiding. I feel the drill method would just twist them together and they won't hold together like an actual braid.

I forget the drill method but it was cool. I think it did more than twist. Another site on rawhide rope had a method to braid. They made horse tack, ropes. A hand braid should do well. I don't think it will take long.

I love the looks of the braided cord slings....not sure my old fingers are capable of that. Wouldn't mind trying to make one though

Well I tried making a sling. I am working on a Axis 30-06 project and decided to give the sling a try.

I did it in OD green and black.
It was my first attempt so I definitely need some more practice..

You can barely see the sling in the picture but it is green and black... I took the shoulder pad from an old camera bag that i had laying around
