I'm new here and going to pick up my new Axis in .223 on Friday. I have been wondering about the bases I need for it. I was hoping I could get by with the weaver 46 and a 402 base with my scope set up. I have a Bushnell Banner 4-12x40AO scope. I had it on a Savage 11 that I had before and needed the extended 402 base for the front on that rifle. I already have a 46 base so going with a 2 piece setup would be cheaper. I have found the one piece base on opticsplanet for around $10 plus $7 shipping. Just wondering which way to go with this gun.

Being a long action with a short body scope, I would get the one piece so you have more slots to mount the scope where you want it.

The one piece really does make life easier.

I have the base that Hi-wall posted a link to and it works great. It allows you to mount the scope as far forward or back as you want, and it's just as good as the EGW mount IMO but less than half the price. Optics planet has it even cheaper than that IIRC.

I just checked opticsplanet and the price went up to $12.69. I did find one on amazon for $15.25 with free shipping. If I sign up for their credit card it knocks off $10. Thinking of doing that and then paying it off right away and maybe cancel it.

i'm using a EGW scope base which is a weaver design and it fits really nice on my .308 axis

Well, I ordered the weaver base last night and picked up the Axis today, $285 plus tax. Now just the wait for the base to mount my scope. Holding the scope up to the rifle I am glad I went ahead and got the one piece. I think it would be real close using 2 extended 402 bases. I could probably get the scope on but would have no room for adjustment.
