I just picked up a fairly nice 219 in 30-30.
It has no holes or grooves for scope mounting
so I need to know what mounts to use.
Its a shooter not a collector by the way.
I am thinking of replacing the wood with a Boyd's stock
if she proves worthy at the range. Any advice appreciated.

I know they factory grooved some of the later rifles so if you can find a smith to do it then I'd go that route.

Boyds makes 219 stocks?

Boyd's has a great selection of walnut and cool laminates . I really want one for my 340 too.

I know that there are grooved 219s in .22 Hornet, but in .30-30? Those grooves are pretty puny gripping areas, and I wonder how well they would hold a scope against .30-30 recoil? Some guys have had 24s with grooved .22 barrels that wouldn't hold a scope against the 20 guage bottom barrel's recoil, especially with slugs.

I'd go with a receiver side mount or scope blocks on the barrel, but you might ask the gunsmith at Ahlman's in Minnesota; they mill scope grooves in .22 receivers and probably know what they will hold.
