May 3rd will be the 3rd Annual Sportsman's Challenge
held at Miller Ranch in Sprague, wa.

You can go to www.sportsmanschallenge.weebly.com to see more about the shoot and keep up with changes and updates. I haven't yet posted everything about it, but wanted to get the general info out about it.

There will be both big game and small game courses. The Big game targets will range from 450- 1000 and the small game will go from about 150- 600 yards.
Most likely there will be 12-14 targets between 2 courses for small game and for big game we are looking at having 15 targets between 3-4 courses that will be spread out by a couple hundred yards so that we can utilize more of the terrain on the ranch, so pack accordingly. Only people allowed to drive to the points will be guys who are disabled or have a reason for having to other than they just want to and brought too much gear.

Scoring will be 1 point for a first round hit, if missed you will be able to take one more shot for 1/2 point. Looking at the number of targets above I would suggest bringing 2 rounds per target, small(24-28), big (30) and you may even bring a couple more in case something happens where you may need a couple more.

There will be randomly picked teams of 5-6 shooters, these teams will move together throughout the competition and be responsible for scoring, timing and spotting for the team members. More will be posted about this later. Don't plan on 4 or 5 guys that are all buddies being placed together.

Plan on being out there all day so pack some lunch and water or what ever you would like to drink as long as there isn't any alcohol during or before the shoot, after the shoot that is up to you.

we will be limiting this shoot to 50 participants to be able to keep it a one day event. If there seems to be enough interest with more shooters wanting to attend maybe in the future we can make it a two day shoot and add some other events to fill the weekend.

keep in touch and if you have any questions you can e mail caleb hallett at caleb@longrangeshooter.com

if you would like to register now you can go to the website and register there and i will get you on the list.

3rd Annual Sportsman’s Challenge
2014

This Saturday May 3rd Sportsman’s Challenge held the annual shoot at Miller Ranch in Sprague, WA. The weather conditions were less than ideal, but did make for a true challenge with winds slamming into guys at 20+ mph most of the day. There were 5 shooting points, each having 3 small game and 3 big game targets with teams of 10-12 members moving together with their scorer through the points shooting different angles and directions from east to south to west. With shooters from all over the Northwest there were some real good shooters that came and displayed their skills. Guys from as far east as Bozeman, MT. as far south as Weiser, ID. And as far west as Portland, OR. We had some people who had never shot in a shooting event before that did real well including, but not limited to Julia Gadarzi and William George both placing in the top shooters. We had a handful of youth who all did well and are showing great improvements and potential in future events.

Shooters enjoyed a mixed course that led them out over about a 1/4-1/2 mile long firing line that they had to maneuver along, with little breaks, some hikes, some bbq that was grilled up by point 1 and 2. The prizes that were presented to the top three of each category as well as an overall top score and then the raffles were all great with the pest prize packages to date making it hard to split things up and make packages that were not all at the same level.

Congratulations to:
With the winner of overall being Spencer Munn, winning a great package with nightforce, savage and many other pieces of gear. 1st place big game Alex Filipenko, 2nd William George and 3rd Brad Davis. 1st place small game Derrick Munn, 2nd Dave Powers and 3rd Eric Stroh winning a tie breaker with Grant Minor shooting a rock chuck target at 571yards for the closest shot to a painted dot in the center of the target.
Also congrats to the raffle winners who took home a Nightforce scope, a LSS chassis from Tactical Works that was engraved for us, an AR case full of lots of ar and tactical gear from brownells as well as other sponsors, a Hornady sonic cleaner with solution and hat, and then a steel reactive target made buy one of our shooters Dave Mobely.

Thanks to all shooters for taking the time to come and show what you have learned and finding out what more you may need to work on, I have a great time being able to set these targets up in a way that will challenge guys, but also make them feel that they have had a great experience. I also want to say a huge thanks to the great sponsors that I have had helping provide all the great prizes and freebies that guys see around the shoot and really making guys strive hard in competition to try to acquire those top prizes.

I hope all had fun and look forward to seeing all of you again at future events weather mine or other great events around the region. After the wedding this fall I will start to really look at making next year’s Sportsman’s Challenge a 2 day event with more guys, more prizes and more challenges, keep in touch and again thanks,

Caleb Hallett

Caleb, that was one of the best shoots I've been to. You definitely out done your self in setting up this shoot! Your sponsors were great! The R.O. did an excellent job and that makes a good safe shoot. They were very observant to things that went on behind the line as well as keeping score! My hats off to those guys! The shooters were great! And of course where would a shoot be without the Wind??? I had a really great time and look forward to the next one. Thanks for your and Casey's hospitality and congratulations to the both of you for the upcoming wedding.
