Just picked up my latest savage, a Lightweight Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor. I mounted a Zeiss Terra 3, 4-12x42, cut the stock for a 13" LOP, drilled 2 - 3/4" holes 3 1/2" deep in the buttstock and reground the factory Pachmayr Decelerator pad. Total weight with magazine installed is 7.01 lbs.

It's only 11.0 degrees right now so I haven't shot it yet and the wife won't let me shoot out the dining room window. If shoots like my others, I'll be more than happy. After I have shot it I'll have the metal Cerakoted.

I know I didn't use Talley's or high cost rings, but the set up I have has proven to be strong. I wanted lightweight rings that would mount the scope as low as possible and be able to change to a back up scope easily if the need arises. I'm not cheap, I use what works for the given set up. I have used with Talley's in the past, but they were not the best choice for this rifle.

I was not aware the buttstock on the Light Weight Hunter stock .was not hollowed out. Can you weigh your stock??

The short action Light Weight Hunter stock weighs 22.8 ounces with the pad adding another 2.6 ounces. When I hollowed out the buttstock on my Savage monte carlo stock I think I cut about 4-5 ounces.

It weighs 28 oz with swivel studs and recoil pad.

Mine has a Pachmayr Decelerator on it and I'm sure it weighs more than 2.6 oz. I weighed a new small size Pachmayr F250 pad which is thinner but wider than the pad on my rifle and it weighs 3.8 oz.

How do you like the zeiss terra? I have been looking hard at that one for my build.

Haven't shot with it yet, waiting for it to warm up, but I have played with it quite a bit. Most of my scopes are Bushnell 3200's which are a nice hunting scope but the Zeiss seems to be clearer. I knew the optics would be good and really liked that it was light and compact for a 4-12. Another plus was that it doesn't have an adjustable objective or side focus which saves weight and it isn't needed on a 4-12 hunting scope. I will buy another in the near future. I got it at The Digital Oasis which has free shipping for 366.38, best deal that I could find by far.

Diffidently a light weight pack gun. I just built a SA 243AI, and its pretty light too.
