I picked this up off gunbroker. Savage 110FV LA with a SA staggered blind magazine. Not sure what it was originally chambered in but it now sports a 204 Ruger Factory Savage Model 12 varmint barrel. I replaced the bolt handle with one from SouthernOrdnanceSales. It came with the Leupold rings and scope base and I had the Redfield scope laying around so it will sport that until I can afford some better glass. I'm going to try and hunt down a 112VLP stock so it matches my other Savage in 30-06. I set the trigger at 2 lbs and it breaks nice and crisp. Not sure if it's the factory trigger or not, it looked stock, but either way I'm very happy with it!

These days I'm more into just punching holes in paper. This rig would be too heavy for a walking gun too. Although I do miss shooting Prairie Dogs from my Idaho days!

I never did get to do prairie dogs, yet anyway :) Years ago a Canadian I knew used to load all year and travel to the states to PD. Once way back when when VHS was "state of the art" he sent me the original 20 min version "seekers of the red mist" Pretty cool vid.

How far you figure on punching paper? Unless I went up Mammoth Cave, well actually Rockcastle range there really aren't any long ranges here. Guess I can stretch a 300 on the gas line.

Montgomery County Shooting Complex has a 400 yard rifle range and it's about 45 minutes from my house. I wish there was a 1,000 yard range close to home so I could stretch out the 30-06.

That's a nice range, bout any rifle can have a good time at that one. Rockcastle is about 45 min from me too. Took a class up there, friendly people. Not a cheap place to shoot though, got to belong. You can shoot sporting clays member or not, price is double though.

I got that new Stevens 30-06 I haven't decided to keep, sell, re-barrel 6.5 Swede but also thinking leaving it 06 too. Got a gorgeous 1954 H&R M1 Garand to keep it company on the bench.

I can't complain about MCSC, $5.50 to shoot all day long isn't bad. Congrats on the Stevens. I don't know what ammo costs for the 6.5 but you can still buy surplus 30-06 from CMP, $99 plus shipping for 200 rds isn't too bad.

Thanks, actually picked up 2 Stevens, NIB :) Ordered a 243 from another FFL and the 30-06 came. Called him and he made it right to get both.

CMP is great, always has been and helps so many get into nice rifles, affordable ammo. I have gotten cans of Greek 30 ball off GB right around the same price. Nice ammo too.

I double checked Rockcastle. Like I remember, out of my "class" and budget. Also a golf course, $$$$$$$$ resturant, resort, Rockcastle is on "mammoth resort"

I'll stick to the gas pipeline. Ride my 4 wheeler out, cuss and fart without shame or getting kicked out!

2 different ranges. One 25-300yd and a 500-1000yd

The 300 is $30 a day for non members or $10 an hr! Free to members.

The 500-1000 range is members only and still $25 a day. Paper and steel extra. It's a high dollar, high profile place. Mfgs come from all over to shoot, test. There is an unofficial 1500 yard range if you got the right handshake.
