Anyone have either the McGowen #4 medium sporter or the #5 heavy sporter? What do you think of these barrels. Im going to order a 24" barrel for a 7mm-08 build and cant decide which one I want to go with. Its going to be an all around multi-purpose hunting(whitetail, varmint)/ target rifle. The extra weight isn't going to bother me carrying it. Im almost decided on a #5 fluted. But still wanted to check and see what others had to say about these contours.

I ordered a #4 contour for my 280 ai. I love it! It is right in between a spotter and a magnum contour. Thicker than factory but not too much to lug around.

Not sure how McGowen's sizes compare to Shilen's, but I used a #4 Shilen on my .284 Axis build and it's a great middle weight size. They're turned to be 0.650" @ 26-inches if that helps any.
