Mcgowen muzzle brake

Have any of you guys used the mcgowen turbo break? Was thinking about getting a 7mm mag barrel with this brake but would like to know how well it worked before I dropped $180 extra on ot

I wouldn't spend $180 on that. Problem with a brake style like that is that you can't shoot it prone without blowing everything off the ground around the muzzle. Harrell's makes a brake just like that for $30 and you can usually have them installed for $80

If you plan on shooting prone you will want to go with a slotted brake. You can get a muscle brake installed for about the same price as the turbo brake.

I got talked inot a break with ports all the way around for my 300 win mag. Never again, it blows mud and dirt all in your face, up under the barrel channel and even gets in the action when shooting prone.

The op never mentioned shooting prone, so the radial brake may just suit him fine.

My brake just came that I ordered from Ross Schuler last Sat and it arrived in todays mail. I had to time it and that took minimal work and I am very very satisfied. Thanks Ross for such workmanship and promptness.

I have to agree on Ross's brake. You can shoot prone and they work. $45.00 for the brake, $35.00 to thread time and contour to your barrel and $20.00 return shipping. There is no one that comes close to his price, craftsmanship and quality. Oh yell and he usually has it back in the mail in 2 days tops.

I just aquired a wood stocked 110 in 7mm rm. It has the sporter barrel and accutriger. I will do long range target for fun and to see how accurate I can make it plus varmit and antelope hunting...so a dual purpose barrel is in my future. What I am wanting is a barrel I can put a brake on, this thing does JUMP! I've not done any research yet, just poked around, looked at a Douglas heavy sporter for dimensions is about all. I've been told that even the KDF slim brakes will not go on the sporter I have...it's 0.550" at the muzzle...so a larger barrel seems to be in order. I would like to keep the wood stock for now so finding a fit that leaves enough wood at the forend after installing (sanding to fit) a new barrel is also a consideration. New stock maybe, but down the road. Barrel and optics are first on the list. I did order a 20MOA rail and have gotten new rings (Weaver quad locks) for the cheapo scope I stuck on it. So,,,,any suggestions you can offer will be greatly appreaciated.

I take it he doesn't have an ffl because he just works on barrels, no actions. Which is a very bad thing because you need an ffl for that work.

What is the best twist for say 150gr plus 7mm mag bullets. I am thinking I want to start with the 160gr hornadys.

Down here in alabam we don't shoot prone very often. I have been shooting and hunting for 20 plus years here and have never taken a prone shot while hunting. I don't not think the style of brake such as the one Dennis sells will effect anything on my end. I really do like the look of the brake matching the barrel also
