1989 110 30-06 staggered feed blind magazine. Converted to a 7mm Rem Mag barrel and bolt head.

30-06 rounds cycle fine. However the 7mm Mag rounds will pop out of the mag well when I start to push the bolt. It's like the magazine sides need tweaking. My buddy's going to look for the old 7mm magazine. Question is, are they different? Or should I just try tweaking the sides of my magazine?

Thanks!

Yes they are supposed to be different but I have an internal 300WM and 30-06 mags and I cant tell any difference in the magazine itself, but there is a difference in the follower.

What you just described is IMO 90% of the reason the stagger feed magnums were control feed, and why the new rifles are all now centerfeed.

I never had much luck getting a staggerfeed push feed to feed magnums reliably. I tried a few times and gave up. Already had a control feed anyway so I did not waste much time on a push feed conversion.

Okay, thanks for the info. I'll grab the follower and mag from him and install.

I converted this to 7mm Rem Mag to save the money buying a new rifle (barrel and bolt parts were free). Maybe I'll just buy that new 116 SS I want in 7mm Rem Mag, and return this back to 30-06. More is better, right? :)

Yup,

Buds guns has a blued 7mm mag with scope package gun for $367. $570 for stainless Nikon.

Installed the proper magnum mag well. Its a much tighter lipped magazine than the one for the 30-06. Works perfect. Follower was the same. Thanks for the input!

I hope it shoots better. I wasn;t so good with the old setup. The LimbSaver should help. :)
