Re-chamber a .223 to .308

Is it possible to re-chamber a .223 Savage model 12 BTCSS to .308 with just a simply barrel change or would there be bolt work or change involved? What would be a good barrel choice?

You will also need to buy the .473" bolt head. Pac-Nor sells very desirable Savage pre-fit barrels.Penny at Pac-nor can fix you up.

Other than Pac-Nor ( a good choice) there are also Krieger, McGowen, Shilen, E R Shaw, Lothar-Walther, Adams & Bennet which is Midway USA's house brand, cheaper but not target quality, Douglas Premium. A&B are adequate as a hunting barrel. All but A&B are in the $300 and up range. I have three A&B barrels which all shoot 1" or better groups at 100 yds. You will also need to change out the magazine box and a new follower for 308.
