My uncle has a Savage 340 D in 222 Remington and is starting to get misfires. We are thinking the firing pin and mainspring need some cleaning or replaced. Can someone tell me how you break down the Bolt or give me a link to some instructions.

Thanks
Nick

Do a search in the archives I think there is a post on it there.

I did a search, actually a few of them. I can't seem to find anything. Me and search engines on forums never seem to get along. Any other tips.

thanks
Nick

More than likely it is a case of congealed grease and crud in the bolt. For a quick, cheap fix try this: soak it in mineral oil overnight then take it to your local automotive garage and have them blow it out with 100 psi air. If that isnt it, at least you havnt spent a lot of cash on it and you can go on to other fixes.
