Where would be a good place to buy barrels for a Savage 12 F Class?
I don't have mine yet but I'm just trying to get an idea of cost for when my 6.5-284 gets shot out. I hear they don't last a real long time.
Thanks.

Any of the many manufacturers will build you whatever you need.

Sponsors here that sell aftermarket barrels are:

-Northland Shooter Supply (factory Savage, Criterion, and Shilen barrels)
-Gunshack (Mcgowen and ER Shaw barrels)
-McGowen Outlet (obviously Mcgowen barrels)
-Apache Gunworks(whatever you want)

hopefully I didn't miss anyone. If so im sorry. let me know and I will add it to the list.

and Sharp Shooter Supply (Brux and Douglas barrels)

Thanks for the replies, fellas.

So, to follow up, what would be typically needed for a DIYer to change out the barrel on a Savage 12F?

I'm guessing:
1. go/nogo headspace gages
2. barrel nut wrench

Is an "action wrench" needed? (I'm not even sure I know what that is...my instinct would be to hold the action in a vise with some wood blocks...)

Who makes a good barrel nut wrench for this?

I prefer an action wrench to a vise. Some of the barrels come from the factory "Gorilla tight". I only buy a go gage. The barrel nut setup allows for precise minimum headspace. To check for excess headspace I use Scotch tape on the base of the go gage.

Here's some more info on action wrenches that might help you understand what they do and how they work.
