Broken axis brought back to life

So I managed to pick up a very lightly used axis 22-250 from my brother a while back, for free!!!

The only problem was that the stock was broken in half at the the wrist or trigger, and this is what I got to work with

Well after numerous searches I stumbled upon this forum and saw all the possibilities and transformations made to these rifles.

I ended up drilling 2 holes on both sides of the stock. 4 holes total in the butt end and 4 holes by the trigger

I also drilled bigger holes underneath the trigger guard

I purchased a 3/16 inch threaded rod and cut it into 4 pieces. I then epoxied the four pieces into the holes and pieces the stock together and held by hand, do it did not get twisted

After it set and maintained its shape I began to fill in the holes underneath, surrounding the trigger

And then installed the trigger guard to make sure it was still in alignment and not contorted.

I let the stock sit and cure for an hour and decided to reinforce the fore end as posted by fgw_in_fla.

While I let all of the epoxy cure, I had a tactical knob laying around and decided to grind the bolt knob and thread it.

After a fairly productive I began to piece it all back together and this is how it looks...for now!

As for what else I'm planning on is-
I have a camo Boyd's stock on order and it should be shipped here shortly. I also have a 22-250 varmit barrel that should be here in a week... so stay tuned

Waiting to see a paint job on this one to clean up to look. You could probably work some bondo into the cracks make it smooth again and then paint. Should look better than new!

Not really. His GF totaled his F250 and it was wedged in between the seats. He broke the stock getting it out

Nice save on the repair job but I would have came up with a better story on the way it was broken,something about rescuing a puppy or fighting off a grizzly bear.

I actually was thinking about using bondo to smooth it out, and I have seem some great camo sponge paint jobs I'm thinking about trying

Textured paint will hide a lot, there is some "stone" textured paint at either HD or Lowe's (I forget which) that I put on a rifle in the grip area and it is rough enough to provide a good grip. I would think that you could also use rubberized undercoating spray to hide a lot.

Thanks Thomae I never thought of those. I have a budy that sprays rhino lining. I'm curious as to how that would look and add extra strength

Is that the best you could come up with. C'mon..... make it exciting. Something like you were pinned down behind a small boulder by a 1/2 dozen Taliban. When you ran out of ammo you jumped out from behind the rock, ran straight into enemy gunfire & beat them down with the stock of the rifle....

Although, I guess the truck thing is better than running thru the doorway with the rifle sideways.

I will have to find the picture of the passenger seat where the back seat should be, maby it will do a little justification. If not I'll polish it up

I really admire the work and creativity you've put into the repair on the Axis stock FL_hunter, but with all the people changing their Axis rifles over to the new laminated stocks pretty soon there will be a glut of extra factory stocks sitting around with nothing being done with them. Heck, I have one in my bedroom that came from my wife's Axis that I'm really not sure what I'll do with it. Just kind of saying, you may be able to pick up a factory replacement very cheap if not free. ;)

It's not rhino lining, but here's what my axis looks like with some Rustoleum brand rubberized undercoating (black) and Rustoleum Multi Colored Textured paint. I painted it after I did some reasonably extensive internal stock modifications that required drilling holes into the stock.
