Staggerfeed vs Centerfeed Compatibility Question.

Will a centerfeed magazine box from a newer Savage 4.40" action fit a Savage 4.27" action?

Define "fit" please.

The CF mags are designed to be held fixed in the stock, and the SF stocks won't hold the CF mag tightly on their own. Since the screw spacing is different you can't just slap a SF action into a CF stock with mag.

I'm in dire need of a staggerfeed 223 mag box and follower, but they've been backordered for a considerable time from everywhere I've checked. So now I'm wondering if I can just use a current manufacture mag box and follower.
