So, Louisiana has made it legal now to use a .35 caliber or larger single shot rifle with an exposed hammer. I thought about just going out and buying a .35 whelen, but I'm starting to build a 7mm x .300 win mag and I though why not just use the same brass and neck it up to .35. I know that it will have more recoil than the .35 whelen, but it should have a good deal more velocity which would be nice on a few of my stands that have 400+ yard shots. I know that this wouldn't be very "primitive", but I was wondering if anyone had any reloading information to help me with this.

Are you going to shoot the 35-300Win Mag out of a TC Encore or something similar ?

Yes, I was thinking about shooting it out of an Encore. I know its not a savage, but I'm not a member of any other reloading/firearm forums. I appreciate any advice.

I thought about doing something similar. Been using a 357 Maximum and wanted to go with a 358 Norma that I'd download for deer and power up for a future Elk hunt but a deal popped up on a 35 Whelen barrel and went that route instead. I could've sworn MGM was chambering barrels for the 358 Norma but don't see it on their site now. Only the 358 STA. Maybe look into one of those chamberings.

I thought about going with a .358 STA, but I was hoping to use the same brass that I already have. I guess I need to make a phone call to a few custom barrel makers and see if they know of anything. I think if I bumped it down a little from the .358 Norma load and then worked my way up I should be fine.

Essentially its a 358Norma your creating, you'll gain maybe 20-40fps ... 358Norma start loads should be perfectly appropriate.

Like others said, this would be very close to the 358 Norma but with slightly more case capacity. That's not a bad thing! Check out Hodgdon's load data center.
