Hey guys and gals
I was told this is the spot to be for savage enthusiasts.

I have a question. I recently ordered a barrel chambered in 450 bushmaster for a savage. I was wondering what gun I should get to do the swap? I was looking at one of the hog hunters in 308 as I should not have do any other mods except change the barrel and check head space.
Am I right on this or am I missing something? Should I use a different model?

I need help!!!!
I have always been a Remington 700 and ruger 77 kind of guy. I don't know much about savages so I come to the kings for help.

Thanks for the help.

That should work as long as you ordered a small shank barrel and you definitely want a centerfeed.
Not sure about a magazine, but you can most likely get it to work.

It will be a small shank barrel. What is difference with the centerfeed and the staggerfeed as far as why one would work and one will not?

If you buy a Hog Hunter it will be a Center feed. If you buy some donor action or rifle the center feed is the most recent production and has the most available aftermarket support.

You are looking for a short action.

The older stagger feed has a smaller action screw spacing(4.27). The mag attaches to the action.

The center feed has a better DBM setup. If it is a blind mag the mag stays in the stock. The action screw spacing is an eighth longer.

outside of the magazine operation the rifles function identically.

I have a 450 bushmaster barrel that I swap between a striker and a centerfeed short action. I use a single shot follower in my striker so don't know how it feeds from the magazine, but it will feed the first two rounds out of the three round centerfeed reliably. Couldn't figure out why it would not feed the third round. It was most reliable with the 250gr ftx, then 240 gr xtp, and would not feed my lead bullets from the magazine. It is a lot of fun to shoot.

I built my 450BM carbine on a SA-CF and it feeds great. It was originally a 243 and it feeds all rounds out of the mag just fine. So far I have only tried the 250gr FTX as I have been waiting on dies.

I originally put this barrel on a LA-SF and my function testing failed because the mouth of the brass would catch on the sharp edges of the front of the mag well cut-out in the action. I carefully smoothed those edges with a Dremel and then it worked 100%.

I sent Apache a message on his website about a 450B barrel, seeing as Indiana has stoopid laws about centerfire rifles and whitetail.

What did you guys pay for yours? PM if you don't want to post publicly, please.

Don't see any reason an axis would not work.
