This year I was able to take my 10PC 243 build and use it on three deer. Love the caliber and the results with the PPU 90 gr.sp ammo. My ability to accurately estimate distance across a corn field is getting worse each year, so the flat shooting 243 is the equalizer. I am guessing the first at 170 yrds and a clean shot through both lungs with no meat damaged. The second was a spine shot at about 200 yrds and it made me realize I could have just held the same as the other one. The third was a 200 yrd neck shot my 14 yr old son made with it. My 16 yr old had to use the lever action 30-30 cause he can't get over the left eye dominance thing yet so shooting my thumbhole stock is a little uncomfortable for him. All in all, this is my first year to actually shoot deer during the first rifle season, and doing it with the customized gun made it all that much better.

Good Hunting, maybe you should save your $$$ for a decent range finder that way you won't have to guess.

sounds to me as though he dosent need much help from anything including a rangefinder.
if you hunt the same places year to year you could pick out some referances and make note of them.
