Its a Savage 114 American Classic with dbm in 30.06 glassed with a Nikon Buckmaster SF 4.5-14x40. So Stoked!!!

Looks great. There is nothing quite like the old dependable -06. I shot one for 20 years deer hunting. It put a lot of meat on the table. A lot of friends went to different calibers over that span but I stuck with it. I could buy bullets at the corner store.
It was a browning though and I eventually let it go. I have a 308 and 6.5 creedmoor LRP in Savage now, as well as a 93 22wmr and an old 135 22lr. Guess you could say I am a Savage man now.

Thanks folks. I wanted to get the classic bolt rifle for the collection and this one fits the spot beautifully. The cell pics don't do the wood justice and the bluing is perfect. Savage did a great job on it. I went with the .06 because it seems to me to be the classic round for the bolt. Hoping to get it out to the range next week.

I did get it out to the range and she is sub moa. That accutrigger is perfect. I did end up remounting with an extended front base to help with the eye relief. The egw picatinny was no help there. I LOVE it. The 06 round really makes the rifle jump. It was my first time shooting anything bigger than 7.62x39 and 5.56 so I knew it'd kick but boy thats no joke. I may get a lighter caliber barrel for shooting piggies and put on the 06 when we go for some larger game. IDK we will see. I'm very very pleased with this gorgeous rifle from Savage.

I am picking up my new classic model 14 in 308 today . I cant wait. This is one pretty gun. I also have a model 93 22 mag, a 110 in 270,a model 11 in 223 and a 220 slug gun. once the snow melts I will take out and make another post.

Fineline I don,t know if you reload or not, but if you do you can load some ammo with lighter bullets and a little less powder. This will ease the felt recoil a little. If you do not then several ammo co. make lower recoil rounds. Also a different recoil pad will help. I have always been a 30-06 fan and have owned several over 40+ years and loaded for more.

That is a mighty fine looking rifle.

30-06, Yep it definitely is going to have a little more bump than a 7.62x39 or a .556 :biggrin-new:
Well, you can either put in your football teeth:crutch: or you might try A slip on Limbsaver recoil pad. It will help with recoil a lot and you can remove it or switch it between rifles easily. I put em on all my long action rifles.
If you are hand loading make sure to never drop below published minimums. Though it doesn't seem to make sense, reducing loads too far is very dangerous and can cause problems like hang fires ( Click, 1, 2, 3, BOOM! ) and pressure spikes.

Looks exactly like mine! Mine is in 7RM Mag, and you're right about the recoil- ouch! I have the EGW picatinny rail as well and after being bitten by the scope a number of times just stopped shooting it for a while. I could not shoot it better than 2 MOA, probably due to the recoil. (And I'm 6', 180 lbs and an experienced shooter.) I don't ever remember being bitten by a family member's 700BDL of the same cal. In fact I moved the scope to a 270 Browning I have. I can shoot it all day with never a drop of blood issuing from my forehead. It was suggested that I move the scope forward, but I had it optimized for the 4" eye relief (Nikon Monarch 5-20). If I move it forward, I'll just end up moving my head forward for a full sight picture. I want to make this rifle work for me but what to do?? Maybe a muzzle break?? Any serious advice would be appreciated.

Absolutely, that's a great price! Nice looking, great handling. Surprisingly good craftsmanship especially for the price. Mine is in 7RM Mag but that's actually more than I need so I kind of wish I'd gotten it in 270 which is a caliber I find perfect for everything I do...medium game out to 500-600 yards, elk out to 300. I didn't realize how much more recoil the 7 has over a 270. I've even thought of rebarreling it to 270 or another similar long action cal. I like to shoot my guns frequently, not just keep them in the safe until hunting season so I need to find a way to get over the 7's recoil.
