??? When installing a factory barrel on an action how close do you usually come to getting the barrel stamping where it would be from the factory.
My first time trying to put together a model 12 action and a fluted barrel and when I have the head space where I think it should be the stamping is off 90 degrees.
Normal, don't worry about it,seldom lines up, which one.

Depends on where the threads in the action were started by the machine/machinist who was threading the action.

I'm usually pretty close, like within 30o.

like dcloco said, it all depends on the action. You put it on 5 different ones and it might be in a different place each time. Sometimes it does line up though, but never for me..LOL

Pay no attention to the roll stamp if the barrel came from a different rifle. Just make sure the headspace is correct. The roll stamping is done after the barrel is installed and headspaced at the factory.

Thanks guys. mine is a half turn at least and I thought maybe I missed something when reading all the post on head spacing. Now I will go put it back on AGAIN and be happy where ever it ends up.
After I'm done I will try to learn how to post pictures and then I will post all my stock conversions and this build.

It happens so seldom, that it kind of concerns me when it does line up.

even when putting the original barrel back on you may end up tighter. I have never been looser with an original.

Blue now that this barrel is on it is the original. This is a build from a new action from Jim Briggs and a 223 fluted varmint barrel from savage, with the heavier recoil lug placed into a Savage Shark tooth laminated stock.
Now that it is installed a factory loaded bullet with Col of 2.248 fitsjust slightly snug, no extra pressure needed, just snug. Now to find some one to pull trigger ;D
