how strong should the spring be on the extractor side of the bolt that pushes the spent ammo away from bolt

Might be a couple things.

Sometimes the notch on the ejector is not cut long enough. The travel of the ejector is stopped by the lock pin. The ejector does not hold the empty case firmly against the ID of the action and the case falls off the bolt head as soon as it clears the chamber. The fix is to file the notch back further by about .020".

Might also be a sloppy extractor. Fred explains it better than I could...

Either way, you might need a little reference...

Fred sent me the bigger ball bearings for my 22-250. I shot the gun yesterday and I am still having trouble with the gun ejecting the spent shells!!!!!

I know there are a lot of post about this, but as of this date my 22-250 still has the problem!

I love the gun, except for this problem!

Have you tried lengthening the notch in the ejector?

I will take the bolt to my gunsmith and let him shave it. 22-250

My 243 kicks them out like a cannon ball, that's what I don't understand!
