Quandry....Factory Axis .308, factory barrel, factory stock. Can't afford both, I chose barrel. Stock can be reinforced.

Question ultimately...Will I have to modify stock at forend to accomodate heavy fluted to keep free-floated?

I would like a heavy fluted to just drop in ideally, but don't know where to start looking. Not too pricey.

All suggestions appreciated...

In all honesty, you'd be better off getting the stock first as that's the real limiting factor of the Axis when it comes to accuracy potential.

Currently all of the aftermarket stocks for the Axis are laminate and come inlet for the factory sporter barrel. As such they would need to be opened up to accept a heavy contour barrel. Ditto for your factory synthetic stock.

SSS will open up one of their stocks for you if you ask.

The Axis is a great build rifle honestly.
