A friend of mine was telling me about a Savage rifle he saw on sale at Dicks Sporting Goods (not my favorite store) so I had to go check it out, sure enough it was a Savage Model 11 VT, a Dicks exclusive I found out, Its a 24",heavy barreled
.308 ( you could get it in .223 also) according to Savage its a 1-10 twist, it comes with the DBM bottom, but the bottom "metal" and mag are plastic. It has the trigger guard mounted bolt release. It came with a Bushnell 4-12 adjustable objective scope ( I am going to use the scope on a Savage Model 10 .243 gun show project I picked up)
So I bought the rifle, out the door tax and all it was $ 492.73, you got another 10% off, if you would buy it using their charge card.
So as soon as I got home I fired up the PC, got out the bank card and went to work. Got a Bell-Carlson stock form Stocky's Stocks.
Single shot ramp from Sharp Shooters Supply
Tactical bolt handle form Southern Ordnance ( Sharp Shooters Supply is out of them , but has me one on back order, I prefer there's but like a kid had to have one NOW!)
Weaver 20 MOA base and tactical rings form Midway USA
Sightron SIII 8-32x56 power scope from Midway USA

Included some photos of the project.

Nice rig!

Another option for the bolt knob could be Stockade Gun Stocks. That's where I got mine.

I just posted a thread of my mod 11 build as well here.

These rifles are so cool that you can build yourself a nice accurate rifle.

Love it.

Now forgive my ignorance. Did you convert it to a single shot? If so why?

I just ordered a model 16 6.5CM. I dig that stock but didn't have much luck finding box mag stuff.

Yes it is now a single shot, the rifle will only be used as a target rifle for Club Matches. F-T/R Matches and just long range plinking so IMO a simple single shot load is the best choice. The Bell-Carlson stock it set up for blind magazines already, so all you have to do is use the savage magazine spring, just drop it in the mag well in the stock, slip the single shot ramp into the receiver ( the way Fred makes his ramp, it almost kinda snaps into the receiver) and when you hold you mouth just right when you set the receiver onto the stock, the magazine spring will hold the ramp in place, it works great. Now a person can spend hundreds of dollars buying a aftermarket bottom metal and mag and have the stock enleted, and they really look cool, but the expense wasn't worth it to me, and the factory mags are a pain to load and shoot single shot.

If UPS hadn't have lost my order from Stocky's I'd have one of those stocks too. I really like that design but may have to go elsewhere. Do you know the weight of it?

Nice build! I'm waiting on my 110 FV in 204 Ruger I just bought off gunbroker to arrive so I can do the same thing with it.
