Just a few questions regarding the scope base that comes on the Savage 10 FCP-SR. 1. Does anyone know who makes it? 2. I assume is aluminum? 3. Is it worth upgrading to a high quality steel or aluminum base? 4. What do you guys recommend brand-wise for upgrading the base? Also looking for advice on scope rings - scope is an swfa ss 10x42

I have (will have) the same rifle..topping it will a Vortex Viper HS-T 4X16-44. I got the scope and rings from optics planet..probably went over board on the rings. Cant go wrong with Leupold or weaver rings. Is your scope 30mm tube or 1in?

Had the same question regarding the rail ...is it good or should it be upgraded..

The swfa ss 10 x42 has a 30 mm tube. Almost went with a viper hst myself.

I really prefer EGW one piece scope base's (a forum advertiser, plus they are made here in my home State of Pa.!!) http://www.egwguns.com/savage/ as the EGW scope base when torqued to the right inch\lb along with a little locktight does the job. For rings I usually use (95% of the time) the Burris Signature Zee Rings with the Weaver base. Oh, the EGW base I get the Picatinny rail base as it provides the most flexible mounting positions for scope's.

FWIW

Mine was aluminum and was fine but I wanted a 20 moa so I got a steel one from Warne.

EGW has 20 MOA's. I don't shoot a 650 loud-n-boomer, so the steel base doesn't mean anything to me.

No dought dave. If mine would have been a 20 moa rail it would have been fine.
