Control feed or push feed

Whats the difference i'm trying to figure this out.

This maybe too over simplified but on a controlled feed the case head engages with the bolt and then is guided into the chamber. In a push feed the cartridge is pushed into the chamber and then the case head is engaged in the bolt. Push feed typically supply full support of the case head where as controlled feed do not. Savage 1X/11X and Remington 700's are examples of push feeds. Mauser and Winchester 70's are controlled.

I believe all of the newer bolt heads are push feed. In recent history it was the magnums that where CR feed.

Control round feed. Notice the ejector slot in the bottom. The ejector was attached to the action at the trigger hanger pin location. and was pretty much stationary.

Thanks stang the pics helped me a lot i have never even seen the ejector slot control feed bolt face like you have in the picture.

CRF was used on the stagger feed WSM and RUM actions. They had standing ejectors that fit in a slot in the action and held in by the front trigger pin.

Technically it's a "V" spring ejector. The standing ejectors is what was used on the pre-1966 actions. The standing ejectors actually "stood" straight up and down in a box at the rear of the magazine.
